Holly Creek Smallholding

What is a smallholding? Here’s a good definition from Wikipedia: “In British English usage, a smallholding is a piece of land and its adjacent living quarters for the smallholder and stabling for farm animals. It is usually smaller than a farm but larger than an allotment, usually under 50 acres (20 ha).”

I like it because it doesn’t speak of owning land, merely of holding it. Caring for it and everything on it, while we are here. I named mine Holly Creek because when I moved here, I counted 27 young hollies along my creek. This blog will meander all over the four+ acres I hold, sharing little details of life as a smallholder.
